DO'S AND DONT'S WHEN CLEANING YOUR ELECTRIC SCOOTER

It is a good thing to be responsible, to take the time to regularly clean your e-scooter. In your efforts to make sure your precious rideable is spic ‘n span, here's a step-by-step checklist on how to thoroughly clean your e-scooter, the right and safe way. Just remember the do’s and don’t’s when cleaning your scooter:

    • 👉 First things first -- check your manual for specific cleaning instructions
    • 👉 Get to know your scooter, especially its IP rating and the materials it’s made of.
    • 👉 Now, how often should you clean your scooter? Once a week, at least. But the best practice is to clean your scooter as soon as you see the need to get it cleaned.
    • 👉 Next, have all your cleaning materials ready and on hand.
    • 👉 Turn off your scooter.
    • 👉 If the motor or the battery is hot, wait for them to cool off, and if your battery is removable, remove it and clean it with a dry cloth.
    • 👉 The same goes for any other removable parts -- start with less forceful methods, and only use a bit of pressure if necessary.
    • 👉 Don’t rub too hard. No matter how hard the stains look, do not be tempted to plow in. It can only result in scratches.
    • 👉 Continue cleaning from the top and move your way down if there’s no more hard and large pieces of debris left.
    • 👉 Try to clean the LED screen by gently rubbing it with a dry microfiber cloth. You can damp the cloth in some distilled water or use a screen cleaner solution. Be careful not to press too hard.
    • 👉 Be patient. Give it some more time and some more gentle scrubbing. Use toothpaste, or lemon juice and baking soda paste, to remove stubborn stains.
    • 👉 Clean the small parts like cables, screws, springs, and calipers by scrubbing them with a toothbrush.
    • 👉 Clean the aluminum and stainless steel parts by scrubbing them with a soft sponge or a dishcloth, and soapy water.
    • 👉 Clean the plastic, silicone, rubber, and carbon fiber parts with a cloth and soapy water, and use lemon juice or vinegar for hard stains.
    • 👉 Clean the wheels with a larger, hard cloth, using soapy water, and use a hard wheel brush if you have one handy.
    • 👉 Remove any large debris stuck between parts or in holes carefully.
    • 👉 Remove grease, stains, or hardened patches of dirt by wiping them with a damp cloth, or a toothbrush with some toothpaste on it, using straight-line motions in one direction.
    • 👉 Make sure to rinse any water left with a dry cloth, and be careful not to push it towards the battery or any electronic parts.
    • 👉 Don’t use blow dryers when drying off your electric scooter after cleaning it -- not a good idea at all. Doing so can easily cause to heat up the components or even damage some electronic parts.
    • 👉 Worse, water can be further pushed further inside the scooter. Use a wet-dry vacuum cleaner to dry off your scooter; then leave your scooter to dry of.
    • 👉 Don’t use high-pressure water spray guns on your e-scooter. Even if some people do it, this is ill-advised, especially if your e-scooter does not have an IP rating
    • 👉 Bear in mind that only models with an IP rating that has the second digit at 6 or higher can tolerate high-pressure water jets without getting damaged.
    • 👉 Now, if you don’t ride your e-scooter frequently, you don’t need to clean it as often. Remember though, you still need to check up on your electric scooter every once in a while, even if you don’t ride it at all.

There you have it. Did you feel tired just reading this? Does the cleaning chore seem long and tedious, and you feel unsure if you’ll be doing it right? No need to fear, you can actually get it done in less than 15 minutes. Yes, that’s right -- just a quarter of an hour! Spic’n span, that’s the way to go!
