Kiev Optical-Mechanical Technical School was established on the basis of the Kiev Evening Mechanical Technical School (order of the Ministry of Defense Industry of the USSR of July 20, 1984 № 248), which in turn was founded in 1956 by order of the Ministry of Defense Industry of the USSR of June 11, 1956 No. 231.

Since 1991, the college is subordinated to the Ministry of Education and Science, Youth and Sports of Ukraine.

Kyiv Optical and Mechanical Technical School is the only educational institution in Ukraine that trains optical industry technicians for the defense industry (space and missile technology) and technicians for the operation and repair of medical optical devices.

The main purpose of the educational institution is the organization of educational activities, covering educational, methodical, educational and cultural work.

The technical school has developed the State standard of a specialty "Production of optical and optoelectronic devices" for the training of junior specialists.

The material-technical and educational-methodical base of the technical school allows not only to train qualified junior specialists in the existing specialties, but also to introduce new ones.

The organization of the educational process takes place at a high methodological level with the successful use of modern information and communication technologies. All practical and laboratory works have methodical and technical support.

Kyiv Radio-Mechanical College of NAU is fully provided with its own classroom, has a training and laboratory building, library, reading room, stadium, sports and gym, dormitory.

The college is equipped with modern equipment of all planned laboratories and classrooms, including 10 computer classes equipped with two hundred modern PCs, training workshops, a computer center with the latest multimedia devices, network Internet access from all workplaces.

Students attend creative and scientific circles, sports sections, amateur art groups; annually take an active part in city and all-Russian subject Olympiads and competitions, taking prizes (so in 2009 – second place in the All-Ukrainian Mathematical Olympiad, second place in the national stage of the International Competition in the Ukrainian language named after Peter Jacyk, etc.).

The contingent of the college is 1040 students. The competition for the state order is 1.2 – 2.5 people per place, under the contract – up to 1.3 people depending on the specialty.

The college employs 86 teachers, among them – two honored teachers of Ukraine, three candidates of science, 80% of teachers – specialists of the highest and first categories, 14 of them were awarded the badge "Excellent education of Ukraine" 16 employees were awarded Diplomas and medals of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

Students have the opportunity to undergo internship according to professional specialization; graduates studying at public expense are employed by the college.

Cooperation with universities of the highest levels of accreditation

Upon graduation, graduates have the opportunity to continue their studies at the National Aviation University and other higher education institutions of III and VI levels of accreditation for abbreviated programs at the relevant faculties.

Material base

The college carries out its activities on the basis of 2 buildings – educational and laboratory. The classroom-laboratory fund is 10675.8 square meters. m., which with a total number of students (1253 people in the full-time department and 76 people in correspondence) provides for one student 8.5 square meters. m area at a standard level of 8 square meters. m. On the territory of the college there is a well-maintained stadium and sports and playgrounds. Provision of own study areas is 100%.

According to the current curricula, the college has 30 classrooms, 18 laboratories, 2 training and production workshops with an area of ​​607 square meters. m., training and computing center, 10 training classes of computer equipment, adapted to training sessions with appropriate training and methodological and material support (computers, devices, models, posters, TCO, etc.), 12 classrooms.

The main emphasis in the material support of the college is on equipping with computers and applications, the introduction of modern audiovisual teaching aids. Currently, the college has 185 modern computers, which corresponds to 15 computer places per 100 students at the standard level for colleges and technical schools 6 computer places, 4 wide-format plotters and photo printers (A1 format), two video cameras, several multimedia projectors, etc.

Back in 2003, the college was the first in Kyiv among technical schools and colleges to participate in a competition for a grant from a Canadian manufacturer to purchase an interactive whiteboard. "Smartboard" won this grant and purchased this board, which is now a modern tool in the world for teaching, providing the lecturer with broad and completely new opportunities to improve and enhance the learning process.

The board is successfully operated in the office of computer and engineering graphics, used by other teachers and in various activities. Another such board was purchased by the college in 2007. In 2006, a plasma panel was purchased" which is used in the educational process, 4 powerful system units on 2 core processors, on which four server stations for the local network of the college are created.

The college has several laptops, which together with educational programs, educational videos on CDs are used by teachers in the educational process.
